Parker Solar Probe is a
NASA robotic spacecraft
en route to probe the
outer corona of the Sun.
About the size of a small
car, it will travel towards
the Sun’s atmosphere at a
speed of about 700,000
km/h, becoming the fastest
human-made object.
By November 2018, it will enter an orbit that approaches within 6.2 million km from the Sun’s surface. During its seven-year lifetime, the Parker Solar Probe is expected to make 24 passes near the Sun to collect all the data astronomers need to develop deeper understandings of the dynamics that spark space weather events.
